We realize you have a choice when it comes to which charities you support. There are so many worthy and noble causes in San Diego and Riverside Counties, but we hope you'll choose to support Voices for Children, the only agency in those counties designed by the Juvenile Dependency Court to provide Court Appointed Special Advocates to foster children. Here are a few reasons why:
Foster children are in crisis and need our services. Ranging from newborn infants to teenagers and young adults, some up to 21 years old, they represent all ethnicities and backgrounds and live in areas all over San Diego and Riverside Counties. This year, we anticipate that approximately 3,500 children will spend time in San Diego County's foster care system and 4,500 will spend time in Riverside County's foster care system, and far too many will stay in the system for the entire duration of their childhood. Just like children everywhere, they have their own individual hopes, dreams, imaginations, and incredible potential, but all have one thing in common: each boy or girl has been a victim of abuse or neglect by their parents or caregivers, and have been removed from their homes. They are put into foster care until a more permanent placement is found.
Supported and trained by VFC staff, our CASAs are ordinary men and women doing extraordinary work. Some are employed and others are retired; some are parents with young children and others have no children at all. They are teachers, nurses, business executives, entrepreneurs, students, scientists, artists, and retired or active-duty military personnel. They come from all over San Diego and Riverside Counties. In other words, they are just like everybody else, with one exception: They are well-trained by Voices for Children staff and are sworn officers of San Diego and Riverside Counties' Juvenile Courts. Despite their busy lives, these CASAs make time to volunteer and have a direct impact on the lives of abused children. Being a CASA is a unique volunteer experience, as life-changing for the volunteer as it is for the child. Your donations make this possible.
Founded in 1980 in San Diego County, Voices for Children is among the oldest and largest of the more than 900 CASA programs in counties across the United States. Your support represents an investment in a national leader in the field of foster care and court advocacy, as Voices for Children garners wide praise for its innovative programs, its efficient service to foster children, and its diligent stewardship of resources. With minimal expense (approximately $2,500 per year to provide a child with a CASA), VFC leverages its cost-effective volunteer advocacy model to ensure necessary services to thousands of children in custody each year.
Voices for Children is the only organization that can provide court advocacy to San Diego County and Riverside County foster children. We are a private nonprofit organization, so every donation we receive is critical to the existence of our program. We currently receive only 18% funding from government sources—with 82% coming from individuals, foundations, or corporations.
