CASA Lidia has served 17-year-old Lana* since 2025. CASA Lidia and Lana quickly built a strong rapport and shared many common interests. When they first met, they chatted for hours, and CASA Lidia listened attentively, learning about Lana, her interests, and her needs in order to effectively advocate for her. Lana has been struggling as her mother has recently received a difficult health diagnosis and feels very alone. Through it all, CASA Lidia has been a consistent and caring presence, reminding Lana that she does not have to face these challenges on her own.
CASA Lidia goes above and beyond to ensure Lana can remain a young adult and enjoy her senior year of high school. CASA Lidia recently took Lana prom dress shopping, and they shared a special day finding a prom dress that Lana looked beautiful in. CASA Lidia took pictures for Lana to share with her mother since she could not take Lana shopping herself.
CASA Lidia helped Lana complete her college and FAFSA applications, guiding her as she pursues her dream of attending college and becoming a teacher. In March, CASA Lidia took Lana to take her written Driver’s License exam, and is now working with the team to ensure Lana can begin Driver’s Education training as soon as she approaches her 18th birthday. CASA Lidia continues to be a support to Lana in every way possible and speaks up for all her needs.

Favorite Thing about being a CASA: “Is being there for the kids that have been entrusted to me to guide, be a sounding board for their concerns/life issues but most of ALL to be able to show them that because their life has been chaotic and different in their upbringing, that in me they will find their BIGGEST CHEERLEADER, advocate, confidant, and the adult person they can count on to be there to HELP and never judge.”
You can be the steady, caring presence a young person living in foster care needs. CASA volunteers help youth feel grounded through life’s most difficult transitions, offering guidance, encouragement, and someone they can count on.
