Voices for Children Named as Finalist in National Competition for Charity of the Year in 2nd Annual Classy Awards

October 28, 2011 by Olivia Chavez

(Octber 28, 2010) San Diego, California – StayClassy, a leader in social fundraising for Nonprofits, announced Voices for Children, San Diego as one of the finalists for CHARITY OF THE YEAR in the CLASSY Awards 2010.  Locally referred to as the Academy Awards® of Philanthropy, the 2nd Annual CLASSY Awards recognizes the top philanthropic achievements in eight cities across the country:  Boston, Chicago, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New York City, San Diego, San Francisco, and Washington D.C.  Voices for Children won in the category of Best Charity of the Year against nine other San Diego competitors in online voting from October 9 until October 22, 2010.

Lauree Sahba, Chair of the VFC Board of Directors and Chief Operating Officer of the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation, in discussing the StayClassy competition, said: “We are grateful to everyone who cast an online vote for Voices for Children in the citywide round, and are very proud to have reached the national competition as the only charity supporting foster children to achieve this milestone.  For 30 years, VFC has been providing foster children with Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs) in San Diego. Our mission is to review every child’s case file annually (6,000+) and provide volunteer advocates to the neediest foster children in the system. This year, 525 advocates will support 1,120 children, and winning the CLASSY Charity of the Year prize would help us with this important work.”  To cast a vote for Voices for Children and the other San Diego city winners, visit www.classyawards.stayclassy.org.

Each City Winner is now representing their hometown and competing in the National voting round from October 23 to November 5 for a chance to win a prestigious CLASSY Award.  The 2nd Annual CLASSY Awards competition will culminate at a red-carpet awards ceremony on Sunday, November 7 at the Civic Auditorium in Downtown San Diego.  It will feature a host of celebrity presenters, chart-topping music talent, nonprofit and technology leaders, and many CLASSY Awards supporters.  More than $100,000 will be donated to support the charitable efforts of the ten National CLASSY Awards Winners. CLASSY Awards partners include NBC Bay Area, NBC Chicago, NBC Los Angeles, NBC New York, NBC San Diego, NBC Washington, Guidestar.org, Legalzoom, Young Nonprofit Professionals Network – San Diego & New York chapters, Volunteer SD, and L.A. Works. For additional information on the competition, event details, and to cast your votes, please visit www.classyawards.stayclassy.org  or email awards@stayclassy.org.
