San Diego and Riverside Foster Care Donations: Transform a Child's Life

Why Donate to Children in Foster Care?

Children enter foster care because they have been abused, neglected, or abandoned. While the foster care system comprises many dedicated and caring professionals, it is also overburdened. The Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) model provides unparalleled support to children in foster care. This highly efficient model empowers trained volunteers to investigate the needs of children and help judges make the most informed decisions for children’s futures. Over time, a CASA often becomes the most consistent adult in a child's life.

You can help provide children with safety and stability. By donating to Voices for Children, you will help us recruit, train, and support volunteers who advocate for the best interest of children and ensure their needs are being met.

Tribute & Memorial Gifts Expand

A tribute or memorial gift is a thoughtful way to celebrate a special person or remember a loved one while supporting the needs of children in foster care. You can also raise money by asking others to give to Voices for Children in lieu of gifts for birthdays, graduations, weddings, anniversaries, or other events. Gifts can be made using our secure, online donation forms above. You can also mail a donation using the mailing addresses above or make a credit card donation over the phone by calling the phone number above.

Appreciated Stocks & Securities Expand

Giving appreciated securities—stocks, bonds, and mutual funds—benefits both donors and Voices for Children. In most cases, donors receive a charitable deduction for the full fair market value of the security and do not have to pay capital gains tax on the transfer of securities that have been held for at least a year. For information about transferring securities or to let us know about your gift to our San Diego or Riverside County program, contact Rebecca Rader, Chief Philanthropy Officer, at rebeccar@speakupnow.org.

Cryptocurrency Expand

Join Voices for Children by donating cryptocurrency and make an important difference for children in foster care.

The IRS classifies cryptocurrencies as property, so cryptocurrency donations to 501(c)3 charities receive the same tax treatment as stocks. Donating cryptocurrency is a non-taxable event, meaning you do not owe capital gains tax on the appreciated amount and can deduct it on your taxes. Consult with your financial planner to determine your tax benefits.

Corporate Support, Workplace Giving, & Sponsorship Expand

By supporting Voices for Children, businesses and organizations help provide necessary resources to recruit, train, and provide ongoing professional support to CASA volunteers as they advocate for a better future for our community's children. Corporate philanthropy, workplace giving, and creating awareness through internal outreach and communications are just a few ways you can support Voices for Children and help keep children safe. Let us help tailor a specific program to your budget and philanthropic goals. We welcome the opportunity to explore ways to engage your employees or members in a partnership with Voices for Children.

For more information, please contact giving@speakupnow.org.

Employer Matching Gifts Expand

Did you know that many employers offer generous matching gift programs that can double or even triple the impact of your donation to Voices for Children? Matching gift programs can dramatically increase your charitable gift at no additional cost to you. Many companies will match their employees’ donations (and sometimes employee spouse or retiree gifts as well!). Some companies even match volunteer hours and in-kind donations.

Find out if your employer or the employers of your friends and family have matching gift programs. You can often get more information from your company’s HR department. Each company has its own guidelines, but many will match gifts annually. Leverage your support to help more children.

View a list of corporations that offer matching gifts here. With any questions, email giving@speakupnow.org.

Planned Giving: The Advocates Circle Expand

Create a legacy so your generosity continues to have an impact for generations to come. By making a charitable bequest, you can help ensure children in foster care will have strong advocates for years to come. Legacy gifts can have significant tax benefits for forward-thinking donors and your heirs. By including Voices for Children in your estate planning, you can make a legacy gift that may not be possible during your lifetime. Bequests in any amount can be unrestricted or designated for a specific purpose.

Here is sample wording for you and your attorney to consider when including a bequest to Voices for Children in your estate: “I give to Voices for Children, a nonprofit organization (IRS EIN #95-3786047), the sum of $_________ [or property described herein].”

Aside from a simple will or estate designation, there are other options for planned giving including a charitable gift annuity, a charitable lead trust, or a life insurance policy. Always check with your estate attorney or financial advisor for additional information.

VFC has established The Advocates Circle to honor and recognize those donors who have notified us that Voices for Children is included in their estates. The Chair of The Advocates Circle is Kathryn Ashworth, Esq., the co-founder of Voices for Children. To join, you simply need to inform us of your plans. For more information, click here.

Cy Pres Awards Expand

Voices for Children appreciates the opportunity to be considered for cy pres awards. We qualify for residual awards in class action cases pursuant to California Code of Civil Procedure Section 384(b).

Our child advocacy program transforms the lives of children and young adults who have been abused or neglected by providing them with trained, volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs). CASAs are appointed by Superior Court judges and provide holistic, best interest advocacy and consistent, caring adult support. Voices for Children is the only nonprofit authorized to provide CASAs to children in San Diego and Riverside Counties.

CASAs often provide advocacy and support to children consistent with the objectives of many class action suits, including education, employment, housing and financial stability, and medical and mental health services.

For more information on cy pres awards regarding our San Diego & Riverside County programs, please contact Jessica Muñoz, Esq., MFS, President & CEO, at 858-569-2019.
