CASA Jessica has been Jack’s* CASA since last year. Jack was timid and quiet at the beginning of Jessica’s assignment. She tried many different ways to connect with him: board games, ball sports, and even trips to the library.
One day, while CASA Jessica was helping Jack with his homework, she noticed a few amazing drawings on his scrap paper. The drawings were intricate and full of emotion, a true reflection of Jack’s inner world. As they talked about the drawings, CASA Jessica saw Jack’s face light up, and she knew that art would be something they could share and bond over.
CASA Jessica is also an artist herself. Since connecting over his drawings, they have visited multiple local museums, discussing various forms of art, from classical paintings to modern sculptures. CASA Jessica enjoys hearing Jack’s thoughts on the pieces they see. They often end their visits by drawing their own interpretations of the art.
CASA Jessica has also introduced Jack to sketching, which has become his new outlet for expression. He has had moments of difficulty with behavior at school, and these have decreased as he now expresses his emotions through drawing.
Through her consistent presence, creativity, and advocacy, CASA Jessica continues to help Jack feel seen, supported, and empowered to express himself.

Favorite thing about being a CASA: “My favorite thing about being a CASA is getting to hang out with my kiddo. He is smart, lovable, and full of ideas and enthusiasm. Plus, I like being on “kid time,” just relaxing in the present, while he runs around in a park, makes things out of craft supplies, and found objects, or makes friends with other kids in a playground.”
