CASA Caleb began working with 17-year-old Andy* in 2024. Since entering care, Andy has lived in three different foster homes. He has struggled to settle in and told his CASA that he often feels like he does not belong. Because of these feelings, Andy has stepped away from his placement several times and has not responded to attempts by his Social Services practitioner to reach him. Still, he often contacts his CASA to let him know he is safe. Over the past year, Andy has done this three times, sometimes for up to three months at a time.
CASA Caleb’s steady support has made a big difference in Andy’s life. He has always stood by Andy, welcoming him back each time he returns to foster care. Through every setback and every return, CASA Caleb has remained a constant source of stability, supporting him with compassion and without judgment. He has continued to stand beside him, advocating fiercely through detailed court reports and close collaboration with the many adults involved in Andy’s care. After an incredibly difficult year, CASA Caleb’s persistence, patience, and belief in Andy helped him take an important step forward by agreeing to move into a new placement.

Favorite thing about being a CASA: “I love watching my kid figure out that his identity isn’t defined by circumstances. His drive and determination to rise up – and be better – is nothing less than having superpowers. Knowing he can do it makes me feel like I can be a superhero too.”
