Riverside County CASA of the Month – August 2022

August 29, 2022 by Voices for Children

Volunteer Stacy M. embodies what it means to be a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA):

CONSISTENT: Over the past five years, CASA Stacy has been the most and often only reliable person in Brian’s* life. Although Brian currently lives out of the county in Extended Foster Care (EFC), CASA Stacy makes the trip to visit him once a month so he knows he has someone who cares.

UNDERSTANDING: Brian has several medical conditions and struggles with juggling all the appointments. CASA Stacy says his schedule is often harder to manage than her own. She has been instrumental in keeping him on track and is happy to do whatever she can to help him succeed. Recently, when Brian’s close friend passed away unexpectedly, CASA Stacy was there to offer compassion and support.

PERSISTENT: Due to the grief of losing his friend, Brian started acting out and was almost removed from his housing program. CASA Stacy fought for him to remain in the program and in EFC so he would still have access to vital services.

It’s these qualities and so many more that make Stacy M. our August 2022 CASA of the Month!

Volunteer: Stacy M.

County: Riverside

Became a CASA: 2017

Favorite part of being a CASA: My favorite thing about being a CASA is the feeling you get when you improve a child’s life and the knowledge that they feel less alone knowing there is someone in their corner, rooting them on.

You, too, can make a difference in the life of youth in foster care. Learn more about becoming a CASA volunteer.
