Riverside County CASA of the Month – April 2023

April 24, 2023 by Voices for Children

“Omar” had been let down by every adult in his life – until he was matched with Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteer Kevin one year ago. CASA Kevin was determined to be there for this young man, even when the going got tough. Shortly after CASA Kevin was assigned to the case, Omar was moved from the city of Riverside to a new placement in Tulare County. Once a month, CASA Kevin drives 250 miles each way to visit Omar. This dedicated volunteer has seen firsthand the difference a consistent adult can make in the life of a youth in foster care. CASA Kevin, thank you for going the distance!

Volunteer: Kevin D.

County: Riverside

Became a CASA: 2020

Occupation: Retired

Advice for new CASAs: Never tell your kid that you are going to do something unless you are absolutely going to follow through and always be on time. My youth have told me that I am one of the few people in their lives who arrives on time.

You, too, can make a difference in the life of youth in foster care. Learn more about becoming a CASA volunteer.
