Often, children in foster care do not have a reliable male role model in their lives. Children with a consistent, positive adult influence can make all the difference, and that’s where a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) can come in. A shining example is CASA Bob, who has quickly become a champion for his case child, David*, by ensuring his voice is heard, and all his needs are met.
CASA Bob has been by David’s side for over a year and a half. He has helped David with job applications, supported his school activities, and advocated for needed dental services. More importantly, CASA Bob has become a safe male adult in his life who is always there to offer guidance. Recently David was asked about all the services he participates in as a child in foster care, and when asked about his CASA, he said, “I don’t consider Bob a ‘service.’ He is my friend, someone who will watch me graduate someday and even get married!”
CASA Bob has taken the time to get to know David and has been there when his bike was stolen while at work, helping him get a new one through Voices for Children. During the holidays, he even plans activities to make them special, building a close connection with David’s adult sister, who is his caregiver. She shared that Bob has been such a tremendous help to her and her family. She is very grateful to have him be a part of David’s life.
CASA Bob has been a phenomenal CASA for David, being the bright light that gives him hope for a promising future.
