San Diego Superior Court to Host Virtual Town Hall on the Child and Family Well-Being Department

Executives from the County of San Diego’s Health and Human Services Agency will discuss the new Child and Family Well-Being Department

The San Diego Superior Court will host the third installment of its Juvenile Court-focused virtual town hall webinar series on Thursday, February 22, 2024. Executives from the Child and Family Well-Being (CFWB) Department within the County of San Diego’s Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) will discuss the new CFWB and the resources, supports, and services offered to children and families. By focusing on equity, prevention, and supporting working families, CFWB seeks to provide families with the support they need before foster care becomes a necessary intervention.

The Family First Prevention Services Act of 2018 paved the way for family-strengthening, prevention-focused supportive services for families to help keep children safely at home.

This town hall session will cover how the CFWB department plans to support and strengthen families to help prevent involvement with child welfare services, address inequities, and support a kin-first culture for those children who require foster care intervention.

Child and Family Well-Being
What if we did not have to use foster care as an intervention?
Thursday, February 22, 2024
4:00 – 5:30 p.m.
via Zoom

Juvenile Court Presiding Judge Ana Espana will moderate the town hall session. Panelists from the Child and Family Well-Being Department include:

  • Kimberly Giardina, DSW, CFWB Director
  • Alfredo Guardado, CFWB Assistant Director
  • Alethea Arguilez, CFWB Assistant Director; Executive Director, First 5 San Diego
  • Valesha Bullock, CFWB Assistant Director

Members of the public are encouraged to submit questions anonymously before the town hall through an online survey. Questions received by February 15, 2024, will be addressed by the panel as much as possible. There will be an opportunity for town hall attendees to also submit questions during the event through the Q&A feature on Zoom.
